USS Aaron Ward (DM-34) is seen from the starboard bow at San Pedro on November 17, 1944, in camouflage 32/11A. Aaron Ward had been commissioned on October 28, 1944. On May 3, 1945, she was struck by several kamikaze planes and severely damaged; after some temporary repairs returned to the US where she was never completely repaired because of the end of the war. DM-23 through DM-34 were started as Allen M. Sumner class DD's, but were modified while building and then completed as DM's.
