A July 19, 1944 letter #02098 from CinCLant requested BuShips to paint all Atlantic Fleet destroyers in camouflage 32/3D during each ship's next shipyard overhaul.
USS Somers (DD-381) is seen in an aerial photo from the port bow in the Atlantic on January 3, 1945. This photo was taken by blimp squadron ZP-11. Somers retains her original armament of three twin 5-inch SP guns and has added an HF/DF for the detection of U-boats. Photo source: NARA 80-G-301383.
