Camouflage Measure and Design was assigned in 10/11/43 ComServPac letter #0937 to the BuShips which assigned camouflage Designs to most ships in the Pacific Fleet.
This photograph was taken in December 1944 of action on USS New Jersey (BB-62) while refueling the USS Lewis Hancock (DD-675) in background. Lewis Hancock is in camouflage 32/14D. Notice the dyed-blue white hats of the sailors; camouflage rules called for white hats to be dyed dark while the ship was in a war-zone. Photo source: NARA 80-G-469962.
