A July 11, 1944 speedletter #01996 from Commander in Chief Atlantic Fleet (CinCLant) requested BuShips to paint all destroyer escorts under construction and assigned to Atlantic Fleet in camouflage 32/3D.
USS Smartt (DE-257) is shown from the port side on August 30, 1944, at Boston wearing 32/3D. This is a pretty good match to the Evarts class 3D drawing. There do not appear to be any “extra” panels on the stern. Photo source: NARA BS 70379.
Smartt is shown again in a port bow view on August 30, 1944, at Boston. Smartt still retains the 1.1-inch AA gun aft. Photo source: NARA BS 70380.
