An aerial photo from the starboard side of the Portunus class motor torpedo boat tender USS Silenus (AGP-11) on August 19, 1944, in Norfolk harbor. The camouflage pattern here is Measure 31 Design 11L. The colors were specified to be: haze green (5-HG), ocean green (5-OG), navy green (5-NG) and dull black (BK). In this strong sunlight the panels of navy green and black appear to be the same tone and almost blend together; it is possible that navy blue or even navy green was subsituted for black. Silenus was modified from LST-604 and added a derrick and cranes to handle the motor torpedo boats. Alongside the pier in the background can be seen an attack transport (APA) in camouflage Design 3D and a cargo ship (AK) in Design 9D. Photo source: NARA 80-G-248511.
