A July 19, 1944 letter #02098 from CinCLant requested BuShips to paint all Atlantic Fleet destroyers in camouflage 32/3D during each ship's next shipyard overhaul.
USS Mervine (DD-489) in an aerial view from port wearing camouflage 32/3D somewhere in the Atlantic on May 9, 1945. The colors are light gray (5-L), ocean gray (5-O) and dull black (BK). Mervine has added a HF/DF antenna on the short mast on the after deckhouse. HF/DF was used extensively in the Atlantic to detect U-Boats. This photo was taken by squadron VJ-15.
