This is USS Seid (DE-256) shown at Hunters Point in San Francisco on May 22, 1944 wearing what should be Measure 31/13D. The circles show alterations made at the yard. The bright sun has bleached out the colors in the photo making both the dull black and the lightest color appear lighter so that the measure is hard to determine. Photo source: NARA BS 75173.
Another view of USS Seid (DE-256) from the stern at Hunters Point in San Francisco on May 22, 1944, wearing Design 13D. Again the circles show alterations made at the yard. The dull black appears darker from this direction as does the light color still making it difficult to determine measure, however, Seid was sent instructions to paint in Measure 31 on January 6, 1944. Note the depth charge racks are angled outward, but the throwers are not. Photo source: NARA BS 75174.
DE-256 was sent Design 31/13D on 1/6/44 and was painted by May 1944, but was ressigned to 31/10D in BuShips 6/10/44 letter to ComServPac.
